The Latest Football News and Opinions From 90 Minutes Online

The NPower League One weekend round up

Brighton continued their brilliant start to the new campaign with yet another thumping win. Peterborough were their latest victims, as two goals from Barnes and one from Calderon gave the Seagulls a 3-0 away win. Peterborough were completely torn apart from beginning to end and in truth it should have been more, as the league leaders clattered the woodwork on a number of occasions. The South coast side are now seven points clear with fourteen games played.

Anthony Pilkington scored his sixth goal in five games to help Huddersfield move up to second in the table. The home side, who had to play with ten men for the majority of the match after Alan Lee was dismissed, controlled the game from start to finish but will be disappointed not to have scored more. Meanwhile Walsall have now only won one of their last ten games, a poor statistic which means they fall to the bottom of the league.

Colchester moved up to third after a surprise victory at Bournemouth. The Cherries, who were previously unbeaten in sixteen home games, were undone by goals from Williams and Henderson. Fletcher got a late consolation for Bournemouth but it was a case of too little too late.

Nine-man Plymouth nearly pulled off one of the shocks of the season when they took a 2-1 lead away to Oldham. The home side equalised midway through the second half to spare their blushes, and then stoppage time goals from Mvoto and Kelly gave them a barely deserved 4-2 win.

Yeovil failed to hold onto a two-goal lead as Swindon fought back with two late goals to level the game 3-3. Austin put the visitors ahead in the 23rd minute only for Williams to equalise deep into first half injury time. Yeovil responded well after the interval with two goals from Bowditch putting them 3-1 up. Victory looked inevitable up until the 87th minute when two quick fire goals from Morrison and McGovern snatched a draw for Swindon, leaving Terry Skiverton fuming.

Dale Jennings grabbed two goals to help Tranmere recover from their recent dreadful run of form, as they beat MK Dons 4-2. Rovers started brightly when the impressive Jennings put them ahead after just three minutes. MK Dons equalised ten minutes later when Leven converted from the spot. With 22 minutes gone Tranmere turned on the style and scored two goals in three minutes to put them 3-1 up at the break. Moore extended the advantage in the second half before Baldock got a late consolation.

Brentford put in an impressive display to beat Exeter 4-2 at St James Park. Legge put the visitors ahead after just four minutes but this was cancelled out by the in form veteran Jamie Cureton. Goals from Alexander, Wood and MacDonald put Brentford back in front midway through the second half. Cureton grabbed his second minutes later but it was not enough to prevent Exeter slipping down to 14th.

Southampton recovered from a goal down to beat ten men Notts County 3-1 at Meadow Lane. Goals from Lambert, Bernard and Lallana condemned Paul Ince to defeat in his first game in charge.

Elsewhere Leyton Orient came from behind to defeat Rochdale 2-1, while a late Scott Wagstaff goal was just enough for Charlton to beat Sheffield Wednesday.

A 95th minute own goal by Mark Arber prevented Dagenham & Redbridge from getting a valuable win against Hartlepool, and similarly Carlisle snatched a late equaliser away to Bristol Rovers for another 1-1 draw.
