Bottom club Walsall smashed Bristol Rovers for six as they closed the gap between themselves and the visitors to four points. With their first win at home since November, Andy Butler grabbed a brace, while Matthew Gill, Julian Gray, Matt Richards and Alex Nicholls got a goal apiece in the 6-1 rout.
Meanwhile this was the third time this season that Bristol Rovers have conceded six goals in a league match, and the omens are not looking good for the Pirates. Rumour has it that no league side have done this and subsequently survived relegation, Dave Penney will be hoping to break that voodoo.
Bournemouth continued their impressive winning streak, following the departure of Eddie Howe, with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Plymouth. With the scores level at 1-1, Steve Fletcher jumped off the bench to score the winner five minutes from time. The win puts the Cherries up to second, five points behind runaway leaders Brighton.
Yeovil claimed a valuable 2-1 win at Brentford to boost their chances of survival. Oli Johnson put the visitors ahead, only for Charlie MacDonald to equalise with a fine volley five minutes before the break. Paul Wotton was the hero as his curling free-kick seven minutes from time gave Yeovil their fourth win in six games.
Oldham's 2-2 draw with Carlisle moved them up to sixth, but they will rue not taking all three points after failing to hold a two goal lead established through Aidan White and Chris Taylor. Further chances came for Oldham to put the game to bed, but Carlisle finally got their act together in the final 15 minutes when François Zoko slotted one in. The equaliser came in stoppage time from a dubious penalty call on Zoko, and James Berrett did the honours.
Elsewhere Swindon and Exeter played out a goalless draw at The County Ground. The result doing both teams little favour in their quests to move up an increasingly congested league table.
