Eredivisie Round Up: Three games to go in a three-way title race

PSV are back on top, but only on goal difference, as Twente only managed a point this past weekend and the top three are separated by just the one point as the league reaches it's climax with just three rounds of games left to play.

Heerenveen guaranteed Eredivisie safety on Friday night with an impressive 3-0 win over FC Utrecht, and boosted their chances of a Europa League play-off place in the process. Oussama Assaidi opened the scoring on 19 minutes and Luciano Narsingh doubled their lead just ten minutes later. Visiting Utrecht never really got going and in the 77th minute Heerenveen's leading scorer Bas Dost wrapped up the points by lobbing Michel Vorm to make it 3-0.

AZ Alkmaar took a massive step towards European football next season as they beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 to go above them into fourth spot. Sigthórsson netted his 12th of the campaign on the stroke of half time to make it 1-0, with Brett Holman adding a second on the hour mark.

However ADO continued to press and they were rewarded for not letting their heads go down when Timothy Derijck's 67th minute goal handed them a way back into the game. But Alkmaar restored their two goal cushion and made sure of the points five minutes from time when Nick Van der Velden's strike made it 3-1.

Roda may still be in with a chance of finishing fourth after their 5-2 win over VVV Venlo leaves them five points off of Alkmaar. And they wasted no time in getting things under way as Rob Wielaert made it 1-0 with just five minutes gone. Mads Junker scored his first of what would be three on fifteen, and added his second and Roda's third in the 30th minute.

Junker then completed his hat trick after 56 minutes with Pa-Modou Kah making it five without reply four minutes later. Venlo did manage to regain a little pride through Michael Timisela and Michael Uchebo in the last ten minutes, but the game still ended in a heavy 5-2 loss.

Groningen may have to settle for a Europa League play-off place after losing 2-1 on their trip to Vitesse Arnhem, and despite spending the majority of the season in the top four. It took 65 minutes for the game's first goal to arrive, and it was Groningen who took the lead through Danny Holla. But the visitor's celebrations were cut short when Bonno Wilfried levelled the tie seven minutes later and Guram Kashia scored the decisive goal for Vitesse eight minutes from time to make it 2-1.

Excelsior may still escape the bottom three and relegation play-offs thanks to a great 2-1 away win over NAC Breda. Roland Bergkamp scored the visitor's first twenty minutes in with a superb chip over Breda Keeper Jeele ten Rouwellar. However Ali Boussaboun made it 1-1 just six minutes after his side fell behind. But it was Excelsior who had the last say when Guyon Fernandez made it 2-1 right after the restart, securing an important three points for his side.

Twente dropped valuable points in the race for the title as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Graafschap. It was an open game with both sides creating chances, but it wasn't until the 72nd minute that the first goal came when Denny Landzaat's superb volley made it 1-0. It was a goal worthy of winning any game, and it looked like that was going to be the case until the 89th minute when Rogier Meijer's header found the back of the net to earn Graafschap a point, and dent Twente's hopes of back-to-back titles in the process.

PSV took full advantage of Twente's dropped points and are now back on top due to their superior goal difference after beating Heracles 2-0, however it was not as easy as the score line suggests. Balazs Dzsudzsák kept his hopes of winning the Eredivisie golden boot alive as his 16th of the season made it 1-0.

And despite Heracles being reduced to ten when Mark Jan Fledderus was dismissed, it was them who did the pressing. It was only some great keeping from former Manchester City stopper Andreas Isaksson, including a penalty save from Willy Overtoom, that kept PSV in the lead. The hosts continued to pile pressure on the soon-to-be league leaders but to no avail, and Marcus Berg made it a flattering 2-0 in stoppage time.

Ajax also made sure that they are well and truly in the title race with their 2-1 win over NEC putting them just a point behind both PSV and FC Twente. But it looked as if they were going to lose ground on the top two as Lasse Schöne fired the Nijmegen side into the lead with just four minutes gone, and the Amsterdam side were lucky that it wasn't more than one as they struggled to get started.

Despite this, Miralem Sulejmani made sure it was level at the break when he made it 1-1 in first half stoppage time, and Ajax came out stronger in the second half. In the 66th minute Toby Alderweireld scored what would be the winning goal for Ajax to earn a very valuable three points.

Willem II moved a step closer to their inevitable relegation after they were hammered 6-1 in front of a 40,000 strong Feyenoord crowd at De Kuip. But it was the visiting side that took the lead after twenty minutes when Andreas Lasnik's free kick found the net. However that would be the only high point for Tilburg fans in what would be a very long afternoon for them.

Two goals in two minutes from Georgino Wijnaldum and Arsenal loanee Ryo Miyaichi cancelled out the opener and made it 2-1 to the hosts at half-time. Then another two goals in two minutes ten minutes into the second half, this time from Bruno Martins Indi and a Luc Castaignos spot kick, made it 4-1. Wijnaldum grabbed his second of the night to make it 5-1 on 74, and Miyaichi also managed to complete his brace three minutes from time to end the rout.
