The Latest Football News and Opinions From 90 Minutes Online

Goals, Goals, Goals

It was goals galore, as always, during the latest round of games in the Eredivisie as the Netherlands finest hit the back of the net no less than 35 times! Including five from the league leaders FC Twente and an evenly split four goal game between two Dutch giants.

It was NAC Breda who kicked things off with a 2-1 win, their first of the season, at NEC Nijmegen. And the opening stages of the game were a sign of things to come over the weekend as the hosts fired home just two minutes in, Bram Nuytinck making it 1-0. It was a relatively quiet game for the next hour or so despite the early goal, until two goals in three minutes for visiting Breda turned it on its head. Alex Schalk (64) and Ömer Bayram (67) found the net to make it 2-1 and ultimately win the game for their team.

Feyenoord remain one of only two teams left unbeaten in the Eredivisie after a dominant second half performance from the Rotterdam side saw them walk out 4-0 winners over De Graafschap at De Kuip Stadion. After a relatively even first period the sides went in level, but Feyenoord ran riot from the word go after the break as Ruben Schaken scored their first in the 47th minute.

It went from bad to worse for Graafschap ten minutes later as they were reduced to ten due to Ted Van de Pavert's dismissal, with John Guidetti scoring the resulting spot kick. Kelvin Leerdam made it three on 67, and Guyon Fernandez compounded the visitor's misery with a second successful penalty of the game eleven minutes from time to make it 4-0.

Vitesse put on an even better second half display when they faced Roda, putting five past their guests in the second half to win 5-0. And it wasn't until the 55th minute that the game saw its first goal when Marco van Ginkel made it 1-0. This was followed by a flurry of goals after the 70th minute, as Vitesse scored four times in just eleven minutes! Guram Kashia (71), Giorgi Chanturia (73), Alexander Büttner (77) from the spot and Julian Jenner (82) were the four men responsible for wrapping up the 5-0 victory and leaving Roda completely shell shocked.

A goal in each half earned FC Groningen a 2-0 win over Excelsior who remain rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie table. Dušan Tadić 's strike four minutes before the interval was the highlight of an otherwise dull first half, and Petter Andersson doubled his side's lead six minutes into the second half making it 2-0, which is how it stayed.

VVV Venlo are still in search of their first win of the campaign after Heerenveen ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at De Koel. The game looked set to end 0-0 only for Luciano Narsingh to break the deadlock sixteen minutes from time and open the floodgates. Goals from Bas Dost and Oussama Assaidi in the 82nd and 89th minutes respectively made it 3-0 and ensured Heerenveen left with all three points.

Eredivisie heavyweights Ajax and PSV clashed for the first time this season in a thrilling end to end game at the Philips Stadion that ended 2-2, seeing Ajax remain unbeaten but drop from first to third. Tim Matavž wasted no time in getting things started, lifting the ball over Ajax keeper Kenneth Vermeer after just two minutes to make it 1-0.

Both sides pressed in a gripping match but it was the visiting Amsterdam side who struck next through Kolbeinn Sigthórsson, who levelled the game on the stroke of half time. However PSV restored their lead when Gregory Van Der Wiel brought down Dries Mertens in the area on 55, with Georgino Wijnaldum slotting home the penalty. Ajax continued to push and came from behind once again eleven minutes from time when Dmitry Bulykin found the net, making it 2-2 and earning his side a valuable point.

Twente ran riot against ADO Den Haag to return to the summit of the Eredivisie on Sunday, hammering them 5-2. However, it was ADO that initially took the initiative after Lex Immers scored from the spot with 14 minutes gone. The lead was short lived though as Marc Janko netted his 7th in six to make it 1-1 at half time.

There followed yet another goal-packed second half, despite Twente not making it 2-1 until the 56th minute through Douglas Franco's header. Luuk De Jong then made it 3-1 on 72, only for John Verhoek to throw ADO a lifeline as he scored his side's second. But again their celebrations were cut short as Emir Bajrami restored Twente's two goal cushion straight from the restart making it 4-2. De Jong added insult to injury in stoppage time, making it 5-2 with his second of the game and the final goal of the night.

AZ Alkmaar now find themselves in second following their 2-1 win away at Waalwijk. Rasmus Elm opened the scoring with just ten minutes gone after he scored from the spot, his 4th goal so far this season. Geoffrey Castillion made it 1-1 heading into the break, but AZ had the last say, Charlison Benschop's 65th strike proving to be the decisive one.

Finally, Utrecht and Heracles played out a 2-2 draw at Nieuw Galgewaard on Sunday afternoon. Alexander Gerndt scored the first of the game to put Utrecht a goal to the good, only to see it cancelled out twelve minutes later by Kwame Quansah. Heracles then took the lead themselves six minutes later through Glynor Plet. But both sides left with a point as Nana Asare's second half strike made it 2-2 which is how it ended.
