Next month marks nearly a year since the Azzurri debacle of the World Cup in South Africa and the subsequent dismissal of Marcelo Lippi. Yet despite his failings with the Azzurri, the Italian’s continued exile dumbfounds many.
The Eredivisie's penultimate weekend saw all eighteen sides kicking off at the same time last Sunday afternoon. PSV, league leaders for so much of the season, can no longer win the title. This leaves Dutch giants Ajax and defending champions FC Twente, who are separated by just a point, facing off in Amsterdam on the final day of the season. The sides will also meet in the KNVB Beker final before their title showdown.
There are only a couple of weekends left in this season's Eredivisie and every single team still has something to play for. Another bad weekend for PSV has seen them slip down to third, a massive win for Willem has kept their hopes of survival alive, whilst denting AZ's chances of finishing fourth, and there is still a Europa League play-off spot up for grabs.
This week saw the semi final first leg of this season’s Champions League, played out to much hype and hysteria at Schalke’s Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen and the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.
